About the artist
After attending the Liceo Artistico and gaining a degree in graphic design at the European Design Institute in Milan, Alessandro Zanoni began his professional career by working in printing, publishing, web and interaction design. Passionate about music – he worked for the monthly magazine Jam for a decade – and auteur cinema. He turned to photography more recently receiving awards and mentions in several international competitions. His work mainly focuses on the Far East. He was in China for two artist residencies, in late 2016 and then in 2018, where he reported extensively on the city of Wuhan, the development of cities in Inner Mongolia and the slow disappearance of some urban villages in Shenzhen and Shanghai. In Japan, in 2018 and 2019, he documented endless suburban scenes by night and the lively nightlife of Taipei and Hanoi. His projects, mainly based on discovering unusual and desolate urban landscapes, have been published in numerous online and offline publications including Domus, Life Framer, Vice, Fubiz, Divisare, Photography of China, Creative Boom, Camera Infinita, il Fotografo, Style Magazine, Collateral and many others. He has exhibited in solo and group shows in Milan, Catania, Naples, Paris, and New York. With Steve Bisson’s Urbanautica Institute he published a book titled ‘The Post-War Dream’, a visual journey into the Anthropocene, a comparison between contemporary China and post-Second World War Italian urban landscape.
